Ruth Jones has described how a tribute to her which has been placed on her childhood home left her feeling confused. Fans of the Gavin and Stacey star added a blue plaque to the wall of the Porthcawl home she grew up in, in tribute to her success.
Ruth returned to her hometown with her former Stella co-star and friend of 34 years, Steve Speirs, whilst filming their new BBC documentary, Ruth and Steve: From Porthcawl With Love. During their visit to her childhood home, Steve noticed something special on the wall of the house.
The actress explained: “Just up here on the left you’ll see where I lived the first seven years of my life.”
Steve then said: “You’ve got a blue plaque?”
Ruth explained: “I have. It’s a blue plaque. Yeah. It’s not a real blue plaque. Somebody bought it basically.”
Her friend then joked: “What? Your mother?” She clarified: “No, I don’t think my mother’s very keen on it.”

Ruth then shared that she isn’t sure why someone decided to pay tribute to her. She said: “I mean I just think whatever floats your boat.
“I don’t know, I don’t understand it myself.”
Steve said: “Take it as a compliment. I know what you’re like. Take it as a compliment.
“I’d love a blue plaque. Who wouldn’t want a blue plaque?”
Ruth retorted: “Well, each to their own, I suppose, Steven.”
Later on in the programme Steve created his own blue plaque to display on the caravan that the pair stayed in during their weekend in Porthcawl.
