IND vs SA, 5th T20I: Sanju Samson completes 1000 runs in T20Is

Indian opener Sanju Samson crossed the landmark of 1000 T20I runs during the fifth match of the bilateral series against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

The 31-year-old becomes the 14th Indian batter to cross the four-digit mark. The list is led by former captain Rohit Sharma who scored 4231 runs in 159 matches before his retirement after the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Sanju was drafted into the playing XI instead of Shubman Gill after the vice-captain suffered a blow to his right toe ahead of the abandoned fourth T20I in Lucknow.

Ahead of the match, Sanju has scored 995 matches in 51 matches, at an average of 25.51 and a strike rate of 147.40.
