Mia Bailey given 25-year sentences for shooting, killing of parents

ST. GEORGE, Utah (KUTV) — Mia Bailey, the woman accused of shooting and killing both her parents before attempting to shoot her brother, was sentenced to two consecutive sentences of 25 years to life on Friday morning.
During her sentencing, Bailey’s attorneys wrote a statement written by her saying the regret she felt makes her “want to die.” Her brother, Dustin, told her accountability was needed.
“What you did ended the lives of our parents, our family, and that truth does not soften with time,” Dustin Bailey said.
Mia Bailey pleaded guilty to the killing of her parents in Washington City in November 2025, more than a year after her arrest. Her change of plea came with an amended set of charges of two counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated assault.
Despite Bailey’s defense asking for concurrent sentencing, citing no prior criminal activity and mental illness, Judge Keith Barnes ruled her sentences would be consecutive. She was also sentenced to up to five years in prison for aggravated assault.
“The gravity the court feels is real,” said Judge Barnes, later adding that he feels like he knows the parents now and that their loss created a ripple effect felt by many. “Your acts on that day are very chilling.”
Washington County Attorney Jerry Jaeger said the case had been difficult for the office and the Bailey family.
“Today wasn’t about Mia. It was about Joseph and Gail, two individuals whose lives were cut tragically short,” said Jaeger. “We are relieved and grateful for the judge’s ruling that Mia serve consecutive prison sentences, one sentence for each victim. We also hope there can be healing for all involved.”
