Quarterback Baker Mayfield and a deep wide-receiver corps have provided the x-factor for the Buccaneers – their passing game ranks in the top-ten and has helped them record an average of 27.5 points per game.
Mayfield has been near perfect. He went into Week Seven ranked fourth overall with 1,539 yards, and tied-third with 12 passing touchdowns. He has also thrown just one interception.
Lead running back Bucky Irving remains out, meaning their ground attack isn’t as prolific, but they make up for it with a run defence that has allowed just 3.7 yards per carry and 88.5 rush yards per game.
While Tampa Bay are early contenders for both the NFC and the Super Bowl, winning in the Motor City remains a big ask.
Despite last week’s road loss to Kansas City, the handicap has moved in Detroit’s direction all week, and the Lions remain an offensive juggernaut at home.
Since the start of the 2023 season, Dan Campbell’s men have averaged 34 points per game at Ford Field, and this season they’ve already beaten Chicago 52-21 and Cleveland 34-10.
While their run defence is strong, the Bucs have struggled against the pass, ranking 26th in opponent yards per pass (7.6) and allowing 231.2 pass yards per game (21st).
The Lions have some issues on defence, but they are one of the most potent offences in the NFL, and they’re at their best at home.
The Bucs’ confidence is sky high, but the Lions have the talent to bring their winning run to an end.
