ITV’s The Chase has finally unveiled the identity of new Chaser Maverick, who has been wearing a mysterious mask until now.

The hit gameshow’s spin-off, Beat the Chasers, sees contestants from around the country taking on the iconic Chasers.

Each contestant must answer a series of multiple-choice questions before going up against the quiz legends. The brainacs then challenge the contestant to a timed quiz round, in which they can win eye-watering cash prizes.

The hard-to-beat team includes Mark Labbett (The Beast), Paul Sinha, (The Sinnerman), Anne Hegerty, (The Governess), Jenny Ryan (The Vixen), Shaun Wallace (The Dark Destroyer) and Darragh Ennis (The Menace).

But fan favourite Darragh wasn’t featured in Sunday’s (October 19) series 7 finale, with Maverick taking over his seat.

As the episode came to a close, it was finally revealed that beloved comedian and actor Joe Pasquale is Maverick.

The Essex-born star is a beloved comedian whose career started in the late eighties after he became the runner-up on hit talent show New Faces.

In more recent years, Joe has appeared on BBC’s Doctors and was crowned king of the jungle on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004.

The 64-year-old is also no stranger to diverse gameshows, having also featured on the likes of Dancing on Ice.

The reveal comes after ITV sent fans into a frenzy after sharing a teaser of Maverick, leaving many to speculate about who was behind the mask.

Many were left convinced it was comedian Jasper Carrott. “Well well well, Mr Jasper Carrott it’s an honour to see you,” wrote one fan.

Another agreed, saying: “Jasper Carrott 100%,” while a third chimed in with: “I’ll be shocked if it’s not Jasper Carrott.”

But others had different theories, with one penning: “It may be Alexander Armstrong, just get a vibe.”

It turns out The Chase fans weren’t as close to uncovering the mystery as they thought.
