23 Canadians named to NBA rosters for opening night of 2025-26 season

As basketball continues to grow in Canada, so too does the number of Canadians lacing up in the NBA.
For the 12th consecutive season, Canada is the most-represented country outside the United States with 23 players named to opening-night rosters for the 2025-26 season, the NBA announced Tuesday.
Though it doesn’t break the record of 27 set at the outset of the 2023-24 season, it surpasses the 21 Canadians rostered at the start of the 2024-25 season.
Leading the way for the red and white is the newly decorated Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, entering the season as the reigning MVP, Finals MVP and NBA champ — the first Canadian to win all three awards.
The Memphis Grizzlies are the team with the most Canadians, with centre Zac Edey and forwards Brandon Clarke and Olivier-Maxence Prosper. The Toronto Raptors have two Canadians in RJ Barrett and AJ Lawson, who re-signed with the team on a two-way deal.
Though they’re not listed as Canadian players by the NBA, Chris Boucher (St. Lucia) and Kyshawn George (Switzerland) have Canadian ties, with the latter having suited up for Canada at FIBA AmeriCup over the summer.
In all, there’s a record 135 international players in the NBA this season, from a record-tying 43 different countries.
