Updated 11:30 a.m.
An unidentified male shot at another person on Sherman Street near the Radcliffe Quad, according to an email alert sent by the Harvard University Police Department on Friday morning.
The suspected shooter may be heading toward Harvard Square, according to Harvard police. He was seen traveling on a bicycle towards Garden Street, which runs from North Cambridge to the Radcliffe Quad and Harvard Square, according to the initial HUPD alert. Police issued an order to shelter in place shortly after 11 a.m. Friday, and have instructed University affiliates to avoid the area.
A second alert, sent ten minutes after the first, reported that the Cambridge Police Department and HUPD are continuing to search for the suspected shooter, and advised affiliates to avoid the Quad and remain sheltered indoors.
A third alert, sent shortly before 11:30 a.m., reported the shooting occurred near the Radcliffe Quad and could be heading towards Harvard Square.
Spokespeople for HUPD, CPD, and the University did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A handful of students and Cambridge residents remained outside in the Quad about twenty minutes after the first alert was sent. Staff for at least one of the residential houses instructed students to remain inside.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
