Linnets beaten again at home

King’s Lynn Town 1 Radcliffe Borough 3

King’s Lynn Town’s winless run was extended for another game as high-flying Radcliffe Borough claimed a smash-and-grab success at the Docherty Walks Stadium.

Lynn dominated long periods of the first hour before two goals in seven minutes from Jordan Hulme and Rio Clegg put the visitors in control.

The Linnets deservedly pulled a goal back through Gold Omotayo as the game entered stoppage time, before Radcliffe went straight up the other end to make it 3-1 through Lois Maynard.

The most significant change in Lynn’s starting line-up from Tuesday’s draw at Worksop Town saw Adam Marriott come in for his first start of the season at the expense of Michael Gyasi.

It was the visitors who carved out the first opportunity in the opening five minutes when Michael Afuye’s cross from the right evaded everyone in the box.

Lynn, playing with plenty of tempo, began to grow in confidence and Michael Clunan saw his effort from outside the box brilliantly clawed away by Mateusz Hewelt to his right before Marriott’s follow-up was deflected over the woodwork.

A deep cross from Bailey Clements was headed over the woodwork by Reece Hall-Johnson as the hosts remained on top.

Marriott used his guile to find some space but fired straight into the arms of Hewelt as another chance went begging in the opening quarter of the game.

The home dominance continued in terms of chances created and a powerful shot from Tom Wilson was parried away by Hewelt.

Five minutes before the break, Marriott again used his craft to pick out Morgan Williams, whose long-range shot was well saved by the visiting goalkeeper, who again kept his side in the game.

Radcliffe responded with a half-chance for Jon Taylor but his effort lacked the necessary power to seriously test Aaron Chapman between the home posts.

The visitors started the second half much brighter and Clegg should have done better a few minutes after the restart.

After being second best for much of the opening hour, it was Radcliffe who took the lead.

Clegg wriggled his way into the box and saw his shot blocked by the legs of Chapman but Hulme was on hand to score on the follow-up.

Lynn sent on Gyasi for the final 20 minutes as they looked for an avenue back into the game.

But it was high-flying Radcliffe who doubled their advantage after 75 minutes, thanks to a brilliant individual finish from Clegg, who lobbed Chapman for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Omotayo headed in a consolation for the Linnets, but it was merely that as the visitors went straight up the other end to restore their two-goal cushion through Maynard.
