Predator: Badlands Trailer Confirms New Predator Is Fighting Not Just for Honor This Time

The international trailer for Predator: Badlands offers a revealing glimpse into the plot for this new mainline entry. While the Yautja are notable for their strict adherence to honor, which dictates their hunts, Badlands adds a new facet to the equation, with Dek’s search for identity taking precedence in the new trailer.
Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi’s Dek, in search of his ultimate adversary, finds himself on Death Planet, where he joins forces with Elle Fanning’s Thia. In the trailer, Thia notes that everything on the planet will try to kill you, revealing that many of his kind have come and perished on this planet. But in Dek’s case, there’s no going back, as Death Planet remains his only chance.
There is No Room For Failure in Predator: Badlands
The trailer further sees one of the Yautjas explaining that either you’re a hunter or hunted in this tribe. Considering Dek is an outcast in the movie, Death Planet seems to be his only shot at becoming the Predator, making his hunt far more than a typical Yautja hunt, driven by honor.
Another thing to note in the trailer is the creatures, as compared to past movies, Badlands seems way more CG-heavy. This further explains why the movie has been rated PG-13; all Weyland-Yutani crew are synthetics, meaning no “red human blood”, making this the first mainline entry to avoid the R rating. But like the trailer suggests, the rating hasn’t hindered the series’ knack for violence, while also opening the franchise to a broader audience.
Producer Ben Rosenblatt told IGN:

We’ll see where it ends up, but our hope for it is that it can be a PG-13 that feels like an R. That’s kind of our hope. And really, what that’s about is just being able to broaden out the audience for a movie like this.
With a few more weeks to go before the movie opens globally, hopefully, similar to 2022’s Prey, Badlands will bring something fresh to the series, and going by the trailers, this indeed seems to be the case.
