Chicago Bears at Baltimore Ravens preview

For a team who were widely expected to contend for a Super Bowl place this season, the Baltimore Ravens have had a dreadful start to the year as their star-studded roster has been hit by injuries to key players including quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Jackson missed the team’s last two defeats to the Texans and Rams with a hamstring injury as they slipped to a 1-5 record and had been expected to return on Sunday after the team’s bye week arrived at an opportune time. However, the Ravens announced on Saturday that he was still not ready and had been ruled out, so back-up Tyler Huntley is set to start after Cooper Rush struggled when replacing Jackson previously.

Other players have returned to fitness but with Jackson ruled out bookmakers have made them only 2.5-point favourites from 6.5 before Jackson was ruled out. The total line has also dropped by five points to 44.5.

The visiting Chicago Bears have won four in a row and have become a far more efficient and exciting outfit under new head coach Ben Johnson this season. A handicap start against a Ravens team who have lost three successive games by 14 or more points looks too generous.

The Bears have injury worries themselves this week, including running back D’Andre Swift nursing a groin injury, but they look the value bet.
