Dove Cameron and Damiano David’s Relationship, From When They First Met to Getting Engaged (!)

This just in: Dove Cameron and Måneskin vocalist Damiano David are officially engaged after just over two years of dating, so clearly we’re in need of a timeline. But just FYI, while these two have made a bunch of public appearances in the past few months, Dove tends to value her privacy. Especially following her breakup with Gossip Girl’s Thomas Doherty in 2020.

As she told Entertainment Tonight in 2021 following her split from Thomas, “I look back at my previous relationships and how public I was with them, and I think it was because my relationship with the public was different. It’s not that I felt differently about those people or anything like that, it’s just a difference in maturity when you’re dating somebody and you’re 20. You want everyone to know about your love story… Now I look back and I’m like, ‘Why would I have done that?’ but it just feels natural when you’re that age.”

June 2023

Damiano confirms his breakup with his longtime girlfriend, Giorgia Soleri, and hits up Instagram Stories to apologize for a video where he was seen kissing someone else shortly after their breakup.

“I am very sorry this video came out, it was not how I wanted to handle the situation and it was my mistake,” he reportedly said, adding that he and Giorgia had broken up days before and there were “no betrayals of any kind.”

Just FYI, things between Damiano and Giorgia were seemingly fine as recently as one month earlier in May based on this loved-up photo:

September 2023

Fans notice that Dove is at a Måneskin concert in Madison Square Garden and what looks to be her Instagram Story from the night is shared by fan accounts. Could mean something! Could mean nothing! (Spoiler: It meant something.)

November 2023

Amid rumors swirling that Dove and Damiano have gone on dates, they’re spotted at Espaco Unimed in Sao Paulo, Brazil, following a Måneskin concert. These two are clearly trying to keep things low-key, but they end up being photographed by paparazzi:

Soon after, Dove and Damiano are spotted holding hands and kissing on the beach in Australia, and the photos make the cover of an Italian magazine. Casual!

Dove graces Cosmo’s cover, and she spills aaaaaall the deets on her relationship with Damiano—including how they met. Apparently, they first crossed paths way back in 2022 when she and Måneskin were both nominated for Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“When I met them, I don’t think I even spoke to Damiano. I didn’t think anything of it. I went about my night. I’d just won a VMA,” Dove dishes. “And then a couple months later, their team had reached out to me about coming to their album release and I couldn’t make it work with the dates.” The “Boyfriend” singer revealed that they had a collaboration in the works at one point and that she nearly opened for them on tour.

“There were just these passing-ships-in-the-night things happening. So when we met again at the 2023 VMAs, we had a reason to talk to each other,” she continues.

Damiano then invited her to attend Måneskin’s Madison Square Garden show, and I’ll pretty much just let Dove’s full quote from our cover story do the talking:

And when he came up to me, it felt like…I don’t know, a year can do a lot. It felt like it had been 10 years or something. When we had met before, he was in a very different space and I was too, so we didn’t register each other at all in that way. And then he was like, “We’re starting our world tour at Madison Square Garden. If you’re still in town in a few days, we’d love it if you came.” It was super innocent.

And then they invited me back to their greenroom and then we started talking and then he asked me to the after-party. And then very quickly it became, “Let’s have dinner at 8:00 at this spot.” He’s a Capricorn, so he was very much like, “Okay, these are my intentions.” It was super honorable. He’s like a 1950s gentleman, angel, teddy bear. He’s the best person I’ve met in my life.

As for their ~first date~, Dove shared that it was “very, very slow, cautious, feeling-out, interview-type questions for eight hours” before they made a move on each other.

“I remember I was fascinated because he presents in a way that seems very easily digestible and then you spend two minutes around him and you realize he is the kindest, most generous, most innocent, most giving person. He’s just a beautiful, sensitive soul,” she says. Excuse me while I 🤧🤧🤧.
