Former Arizona guard Brandon Williams arrested for marijuana possession

Brandon Williams’ first full season in the NBA is off to a shaky start.
The former Arizona Wildcats guard, who is now a backup for the Dallas Mavericks, was arrested Saturday for possession of marijuana at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
Williams was traveling through Terminal C when TSA agent noticed a “black container containing a green leafy substance” inside his suitcase, according to an incident report obtained by The Athletic. Williams admitted the substance was marijuana but told the TSA officer that his manager had packed his bag for him, the news outlet reported.
Williams reportedly was carrying less than two ounces of marijuana and was charged with a misdemeanor. The Mavericks had previously said Williams was out to due “personal reasons.” Williams was listed as questionable for Dallas’ home game Wednesday versus the Indiana Pacers.
Prior to his arrest, Williams appeared in Dallas’ first two games of the season, playing a total of 19 minutes.
Williams appeared in 33 games last season for Dallas, averaging 8.3 points in 14 minutes per game.
