Trick-or-treaters are in for some blustery, wet weather in southern Quebec

Southern Quebec may be in for a dreary, wet and blustery Halloween this year.

Between 40 and 60 millimetres of rain from Thursday afternoon to Friday evening is expected, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, which issued a rainfall warning Wednesday.

A low-pressure system moving in from the midwest will bring significant rainfall along with moderate to strong winds. Environment Canada says the system affecting Quebec could also be influenced by the remnants of Hurricane Melissa.

The heaviest rain is forecast overnight Thursday into Friday morning, with precipitation tapering off later Friday.

In the past, Quebec municipalities have attempted to postpone celebrations due to spooky weather.

For example, in 2019, Montreal joined several municipalities across the province in urging trick-or-treaters to delay going door-to-door due to heavy rain and high winds in the forecast.

Regardless, many braved the weather and went out into the wet and windy night, hoping to scare up some treats.

Of course, 2020 was even scarier with the pandemic in full swing, but trick-or-treaters were allowed to hit the streets as long as they followed strict guidelines.
