JFK Airport Ground Stop: Flight Halted In NYC Due To ‘Aircraft Emergency’

A ground stop has been issued at John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) due to an emergency involving an inbound aircraft. Around 13:00 ET today, a ground stop was declared at JFK for all departures and arrivals, triggered by an “aircraft emergency” on a flight arriving at the airport.
Aviation tracking data suggests the affected aircraft may have squawked emergency code 7700, according to a report by Daily Express US.
The report suggested that Aviation trackers online said Frontier flight FFT3546/F93546, San Juan-New York (JFK) squawked emergency code 7700 upon landing. Notably, severe weather, including thunderstorms, is believed to be the reason.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast to hit the Big Apple through the evening, raising the risk of flooding in some areas.
Meanwhile, airports along the East Coast are experiencing delays due to storms. Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) reported average departure delays of about 30 minutes, while Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is seeing delays of roughly an hour. At Washington’s Reagan National Airport (DCA), delays range from about one hour to more than two hours.
