Edmonton Oilers reveal details for Adam Henrique’s 1,000 NHL game celebration

Adam Henrique played in his 1,000th NHL game last week, but the Edmonton Oilers still haven’t held an on-ice celebration for the veteran.

That milestone came during a road game against the Ottawa Senators, but the team has played two home games since then and still hasn’t done the usual pregame celebration to honour it. This has some fans wondering if the team will do one at all, as it has become customary around the league.

The good news is that the team is, in fact, planning to celebrate Henrique’s achievement, and they have released details about when it will take place. In a press release, the Oilers announced that a special pregame celebration will occur before Thursday night’s game against the New York Rangers.

“The Oilers will honour his achievement with an on-ice ceremony before puck drop, attended by teammates, family and special guests,” the team said in the release. “Fans are encouraged to arrive early on October 30 to join the Oilers in celebrating Henrique’s remarkable career and contributions to the game.”

Details on what exactly the ceremony will include have not been released by the Oilers, but the tradition is that the player is gifted a silver stick from the team and given a commemorative crystal from the NHL. There is also a chance that some other unique gifts are provided by the team or Henrique’s teammates.

The accomplishment made the 35-year-old the 409th player in NHL history to reach the plateau and the first player to do so while playing for the Oilers. He celebrated the day of the game in style, as Edmonton defeated the Ottawa Senators in OT off a Jake Walman game-winner.

While he still hasn’t gotten an on-ice celebration, his Oilers teammates commemorated the milestone the day of his 1,000th game with custom-made racing shirts.

There won’t be a dry eye in Rogers Place as Henrique is honoured for his accomplishment, and it will be a nice way for fans to let the veteran know how they feel about his contributions to the team.
