Arenas on why he would take Wemby over Jokic for the next five years: “He can f—k around and have a quadruple double”

Given the kind of start Victor Wembanyama has had to the 2025-26 season, it’s no surprise that he earned the Western Conference Player of the Week award. However, what truly stands out isn’t just Wemby finally fulfilling his potential GOAT claims, but the sheer manner in which he is dominating on both ends of the floor.
Wembanyama’s performance has been so stellar that many have started to believe that if Nikola Jokic redefined what it meant to be a modern-day center, the French phenom might be on the verge of taking that evolution to a near-unreal level. That’s precisely why Gilbert Arenas is willing to take the 7’4″ big man over the three-time MVP over the next five-year span.
Arenas on why he would choose Wembanyama over Jokic almost blindly
In the opening week of the 2025-26 season, Wemby has already become the first player in the league’s history to score over 100 points and record over 15 blocks. Moreover, in the first four games, Victor is averaging 31.0 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 4.8 blocks per game, truly putting up Wilt Chamberlain-esque numbers in front of modern-day fans. More impressively, the 21-year-old isn’t just achieving individual greatness but has even led the San Antonio Spurs to win their first four contests.
Meanwhile, while Jokic has been the best big man over the previous five-year window, winning the MVP award three times, it is worth noting that he has had a slow start to the 2025-26 season, averaging a triple-double but with only 20.0 points per game.
That reasoning underpins Gil’s belief in the French man’s long-term superiority. Additionally, according to Arenas, Wembanyama is just getting started, whereas Jokic will likely experience a decline in his form over the next five seasons.
Moreover, with Victor having a more versatile game-impact demeanor, his confidence is likely to grow at a young age of 21, as is Wemby’s consistency and dominance.
“The next five years? I’m taking Wemby. What Jokic brings, Wemby can actually do it. Wemby can average a triple-double because he knows how to actually pass the ball, like he was vision too. So, if he wants to average 10 assists, he can actually do it. He can f—k around and have a quadruple double, ’cause you get the blocks,” Arenas said. “So, when I’m saying I’m taking him over the next five years, there’s gonna be a game where it’s gonna look like a 2K selfish type of game.”

Wembanyama can do more than Jokic
While the Serbian center remains one of the most gifted offensive players of all time, hardly anyone would debate that defense has never been his strong suit. Opposing guards and smaller forwards often attack the rim without much hesitation when The Joker is patrolling the paint.
On the other hand, daring to do so with Wembanyama is indeed an impossibility. His length, timing, and instincts make Vic an elite rim protector, perhaps already the most ruthless at this early stage of his career.
This two-way dominance has led many to believe that Wemby could achieve feats that once seemed unimaginable, including the possibility of recording multiple quadruple-doubles in his career. Who knows, while Jokic has given a new meaning to being a big man in today’s time, Wembanyama might rewrite that narrative in his own otherworldly manner soon.
