Drunk driver asleep in drive-thru: cops

A 25-year old man is expected to be charged with drink driving after he allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel at a McDonald’s drive through.

Police were called to the fast food restaurant on the corner of Cheltenham Service Road and Bennett Street in Dandenong, Melbourne about 2.30am on Saturday.

There, they found a man asleep in the drivers seat of a Toyota Camry at the end of the drive-thru.

It is alleged the sleepy driver still had the keys in the ignition before being woken by police.

The driver had empty bottles and casks of wine in the back seat of the car.

He was given a breath test and recorded an alleged reading of .158 – more than three times the legal limit.

Police allege the driver has never held a license and he was arrested in relation to other outstanding matters.

The Dingley Village man is expected to be charged with drink-driving and other related driving offences.
