Declan Bates faces an extended stint on the sidelines after a fall at the Ballarat jumpouts.
The jockey was taken to hospital with back soreness on Monday.
Scans have since revealed Bates had suffered a fracture to his pelvis and sacrum, as well as a possible T4 fracture.
At this stage, he does not require surgery.
