A 16-man tournament will decide John Cena’s opponent for his final match.
The announcement was made in a video that aired during WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. Cena stated that the tournament will begin in his hometown of Boston on Raw on Monday, November 10.
Cena explained his motivation for the tournament, saying he wants to face an opponent who earns the opportunity. “On my last day, I want to face whoever is willing to step up and seize the same kind of opportunity I was given on my first day,” he said.
According to Cena, the 16-person field “will be chosen at random.”
He specified the bracket will be “filled with competitors from RAW, SmackDown, NXT, and maybe even some faces who don’t even work here.”
Cena also noted the field will include “stars with whom I have a storied history” as well as “a generation of talent that I’ve never gone one-on-one with in my life.”
The tournament will conclude, and Cena’s final opponent will be determined, at the next Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 in Washington, D.C.
“My final opponent isn’t going to be hand-picked,” Cena concluded. “It’s going to be hard-earned.”
