Diljit Dosanjh admits facing racism in BTS clip from Australia concert: ‘People called me a cab driver’

Singer Diljit Dosanjh is currently touring the world with his latest album, AURA. Before his recent concert in Sydney, Diljit shot some behind-the-scenes footage to show his fans exactly what goes on behind his live shows. He talked about certain logistical troubles, his experience of playing in foreign countries and how he feels that his fans and their happiness after the show are his own responsibility.

In the video, Diljit could be seen walking around the massive CommBank stadium in Sydney, and check out his stage. He then checked the sound levels for the show, and Diljit shared that he was facing some issues with the background track. “Exactly one year ago, I played a song in New Delhi, and even then I faced this same issue on the first day. My voice and the backing track aren’t in sync, but I hope that it gets fixed. People come out here, all dressed up and excited, and it is my responsibility to ensure they have fun,” said Diljit.

The ‘GOAT’ singer also talked about something concerning. He recalled landing in Australia and how some paparazzi posted pictures of him arriving. Diljit shared that when he read the comments section of that post, he found a lot of racist comments directed towards him.

He said, “When I landed in Australia, some agencies reported it. Someone sent me the comments section of one of those reports. People were saying things like, ‘The new Uber driver is here,’ or ‘The new 7/11 employee has landed.’ I have seen a lot of these racist comments. But people are fighting against it as well, because they have struggled a lot to create a space for themselves. I think the world should be one, and there should be no borders.”

He added, “I don’t mind being compared to a cab or truck driver. If truck drivers cease to exist, you won’t get bread for your home. I’m not angry, and my love goes out to everyone, even the ones who say things like that about me.”

Some fans were also a part of the video, and one of them said, “Just like your name, you have won the hearts of everyone around the world. Not just Sydney and not just Punjab. We love you,” while another said, “We had goosebumps the entire time. Diljit, your voice reaches the very soul of the person. We love you, God bless you, and we wish you a very long life.”
