Shubman Gill greets Abhishek Sharma’s mom & dad after AUS vs IND 2025 2nd T20I [Watch]

Team India star Shubman Gill greeted Abhishek Sharma’s parents upon crossing paths with them following the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, October 31. The video shared on X showed the Punjab-born cricketer touching Abhishek’s mother’s feet and embracing his teammate’s father before boarding the team bus.

A similar moment had occurred during a training session ahead of an Asia Cup 2025 fixture, as Abhishek’s father visited the Indian team and the 26-year-old touched his feet. The two promising youngsters share a strong bond off the field, given they have played plenty of matches together for Punjab in their earlier days and are now opening for India in T20Is.

The Men in Blue lost the second T20I in Melbourne by four wickets to concede a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Abhishek top-scored with 68 off 37 deliveries, but the tourists managed only 125 in the first innings. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh top-scored with 46 off 26 deliveries as the hosts reached the target in 13.2 overs.

“He has to perform” – Irfan Pathan on Shubman Gill

Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has urged Shubman Gill, who made 5 (10) in the second T20I, to showcase his talent with runs. Pathan said the Men in Blue have a bona fide T20 player in Yashasvi Jaiswal and that Gill’s non-performance will only put pressure on him and India.

“Coming to Shubman Gill. Look, Shubman replaced Sanju Samson, who had scored three centuries as an opener, to open for India in T20Is. Gill has potential, leadership quality, and has scored a lot in the IPL. But he has to perform. In the last ten innings, he hasn’t even scored 200 runs in total. So the pressure will build on him. He’s getting opportunities and backing, but he has to convert that into performances — which we haven’t seen yet,” Pathan said (via India Today).

“You have Yashasvi Jaiswal, a fantastic T20 player. We’ve seen him in the IPL with a strike rate of 160. If he’s sitting out while Gill keeps getting regular chances and doesn’t deliver, then the pressure will be on both him and the team,” he added.

The visitors will look to level the series in the third T20I on Sunday. The first match was abandoned due to rain.
