‘Tyrant’: Charlize Theron To Star In NYC Culinary World Thriller

Charlize Theron has a lot on her plate. Following The Old Guard 2, she’s set to star in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, survival thriller Apex, and Justin Lin’s Two for the Money. But there’s always room for more, and it sounds like Theron might be coming back to the kind of role that made her an Oscar winner years ago.
Deadline reports Theron is in talks to star in Tyrant, a thriller set in New York City’s high-end culinary world. The story by David Weil (Citadel) and Cody Behan will be directed by Weil, and is described as Wall Street meets Whiplash. Another leading female role has yet to be cast, and to me it sounds like a mentor/student situation with Theron as the domineering master chef.
Weil is a busy guy. He recently sold his script Supermax that will go into development at Miramax. Plus he’s writing Extraction 3 for Chris Hemsworth, and the next movie by Conclave director Edward Berger.
Amazon MGM won Tyrant after a fierce bidding war, so expect it to put a lot of muscle behind this one. That’ll start with the casting of Theron’s co-star, so keep an eye out for more.
