Selling Sunset season nine has landed – and between Nicole Young being fired and Emma Hernan’s new boyfriend, this could be the show’s most explosive season yet.
Alongside more luxury real estate, this instalment of the hit Netflix show has seen the return of some long-simmering tensions. Namely, the ongoing feud between Mary Bonnet and Chelsea Lazkani. Far from building bridges, the former friends have grown further apart in season nine. In one scene, Mary refused to accept the flowers sent to her by Chelsea after a home invasion. During a dinner party, the star then burst into tears after seeing Chelsea’s name on a seating card.
It’s a feud that’s showing no sign of cooling down – but what actually happened between the two Selling Sunset stars in the first place? Buckle in, here’s Chelsea Lazkani and Mary Bonnet’s friendship fallout explained.
Why did Chelsea and Mary fall out on Selling Sunset?
Let’s retrace our steps back to season eight, where our story begins.
Last season saw Mary and Chelsea work on a co-listing together, inviting the whole office to their huge open house. However, the party didn’t go to plan – with Mary left unimpressed after Chelsea turned up late, before criticising her outfit choice of a blazer and mini skirt.
Talking to O Group bosses Jason and Brett, Mary said, ‘I just wanted to bring something up. Chelsea was an hour late. But then I’ve had a couple people come up to me and be like, “What is she wearing?” You know, it’s not professional. Like her butt and her hoo-ha is out.’

Pulling Chelsea into the conversation, Brett then asked, ‘I love you, but what do you think about toning the dress down 10% when we’re at a broker’s opening?’
Confused about where the comments were coming from, Chelsea quickly called out Mary for bringing up the conversation in front of two men. Agreeing to ‘tone down’ her outfits, Chelsea said to Mary, ‘If you were trying to be respectful, you wouldn’t have done it in front of two gentlemen.’
Chelsea continued, ‘Generally as a woman, and being someone that’s very supportive of how women want to turn up, I do take it as a bit of a dig that you’d come to me in front of our two bosses to talk to me about my dress sense when I see your tits out every now and again. And that’s perfectly fine, because I think you have amazing tits and should wear what you feel comfortable [in]. But if you wanted to be woman to woman, you would’ve pulled me aside. But doing it in front of two men, I just think it’s a little bit of a low blow.’
That marked the beginning of the end for these two co-workers.
What happened between Mary and Chelsea in season nine?
After their open house drama last season, it’s no surprise that season nine didn’t get off to a good start for these Selling Sunset stars. During the new season, Mary experienced a terrifying home invasion in which her house was robbed. In a good will gesture, Chelsea chose to send her colleague some flowers – but the act did far more damage than good.
When the bouquet turned up in the middle of filming, Mary asked producers if they had told Chelsea details about when and where they were filming. Believing Chelsea had planned the moment, fellow relator Bre Tiesi then threw the flowers into the bin.

Later confronted by Mary, Chelsea denied any ulterior motives for sending the bouquet. Speaking during a dinner party, the star said, ‘You’re here saying that I did it for the cameras. What do you think I need camera time for? B*tch, they’ll get my face regardless. I don’t need f*cking camera time.’
Opening up about flower-gate after the show, Mary told US Weekly that she still isn’t quite sure what went down. ‘I don’t really know exactly what happened on that one. I disagree with what was said based on facts but I think there was some working together on their side [between Chelsea and the production team] for that to happen. That wasn’t a normal way to go about things – and there’s no way she could have known [what happened]. So there was some work going on between the two of them.’
Are Selling Sunset‘s Mary and Chelsea friends again?
If the finale is anything to go by, then it doesn’t seem so. The series ended with Mary in tears, growing emotional after she spotted Chelsea’s name on a table setting card at Bre’s party. Ultimately, Chelsea chose to skip the dinner party – instead choosing to hang out with Emma and Chrishell instead.
Opening up to Us earlier this month, Mary explained, ‘At Bre’s party, I wasn’t just emotional. There were some things from after the dinner party that happened that I didn’t want to put myself in a situation where I’m in danger. I’m not upset because I see her name or that she was going to be there. There were some issues where I just don’t want any part of this.’
Adding that there was ‘a lot that was not on camera,’ Mary continued, ‘I’m a grown woman and I’m a professional. I don’t have this in my life and I’m not going to. I got upset and cried because of that. It was an actual issue. There were definitely things that were said afterwards that I don’t agree with and I won’t be around.’
Following Mary’s recent comments, Chrishell was quick to jump to the defence of close pal Chelsea. Taking to her Instagram stories, the star wrote, ‘I was there for all the on camera and off camera moments. You were never in danger, girl. Alluding that you ever were regarding Chelsea is really dangerous rhetoric. Do BETTER.’
So, are Chelsea and Mary friends now? It doesn’t appear so. While Mary does follow Chelsea on Instagram, Chelsea doesn’t follow her back. With the Selling Sunset reunion landing on 5 November, 2025, we won’t have to wait too long for an update on this fallout.
