Oklahoma kicker Tate Sandell’s ‘short shorts’ should be a penalty, says Kirk Herbstreit

Predicting Tennessee football vs Oklahoma in playoff elimination game

Tennessee and Oklahoma are both in the College Football Playoff mix. But the loser is likely out with a third loss. Adam Sparks gives his prediction.

Oklahoma football kicker Tate Sandell was 3 of 3 on field goals, including two from 50-plus yards in the first half against Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 1.

And it’s somehow not the most notable thing the first-year UTSA transfer did against the Vols.

Sandell’s football pants appeared to get shorter and shorter each time he trotted out onto the field for another field goal try. ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit even referred to his pants as “Daisy Dukes.”

“He’s got his short shorts on,” ESPN play-by-play commentator Chris Fowler said on the broadcast. “I guess that’s no longer frowned upon in this sport.”

Color analyst Kirk Herbstreit responded: “It is with me. That should be a penalty. Dressing like that should be a penalty.”

Oklahoma clearly doesn’t mind, especially as Sandell is now 17-of-18 on field goals this season, including 5-of-5 from 50 or more yards. His 55-yard field goal in the first half also tied the record for longest make at Neyland Stadium.

The Sooners gained 99 total yards compared to Tennessee’s 255 yards in the first half, although three turnovers along with Sandell’s consistency has them leading 16-10 at the break.

Here’s how social media reacted to Sandell, an unlikely star in Oklahoma-Tennessee in Week 10:
