First Alert Weather: Blast of cold air arriving Sunday into Monday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Happy Saturday!
It was a cloudy and foggy morning, but thankfully the fog has dissipated. Clouds are starting to decrease allowing our temperatures to warm into the lower 70s shortly before noon.
We are watching a weak cold front that will likely push through the state today. Ahead of the front, we remain a little humid and warm for this time of the year. We should end up with a partly cloudy sky this afternoon.

The weather will be fantastic for the Miles and Tuskegee football game this afternoon.
Temperatures are forecast to warm into the mid 70s with a southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph. An isolated shower or storm will remain possible this afternoon and evening, but I think most of us will remain dry. Enjoy the warm temperatures today, because very cold air will begin to move into central Alabama tomorrow.

If you have any evening plans, temperatures will likely cool into the 60s with a partly cloudy sky. We will hold on to an isolated shower or storm this evening into tonight, but I think the majority of us will remain dry. The weather is looking great for Alabama as they take on the LSU Tigers in Tuscaloosa this evening.
Falling temperatures Sunday: A strong cold front is forecast to move through central Alabama Sunday afternoon.
An isolated shower could be squeezed out early Sunday morning, but most of us will remain dry tomorrow. The warmest part of the day will likely occur in the late morning hours. We could see high temperatures briefly warm into the low 60s by noon. Temperatures will likely begin to fall Sunday afternoon as cold air moves in from the north. I think most of us will end up in the mid to upper 50s by 3 p.m. You’ll need to protect and bring your plants inside tomorrow afternoon before the big freeze arrives. You’ll also want to make sure your pets are inside so they can stay warm.
Sunday evening will likely end up chilly and windy at times. Temperatures will likely begin to cool into the 40s, but the wind will make it feel like it is in the 30s Sunday evening. Winds tomorrow are forecast to come from the northwest at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 25-30 mph. Make sure you secure outdoor furniture and decorations. It will be windy at times Sunday through Monday afternoon.

First Alert Weather Days Monday into Tuesday: We have declared Monday and Tuesday mornings as First Alert Weather Days.
Freezing temperatures will be likely Monday morning with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s. With the upcoming freeze likely, the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch for most of central Alabama Sunday night into Monday morning. It will likely get upgraded to a warning tonight. You’ll need to make sure you protect your plants and your pets. Snow flurries or light snow showers are possible Sunday night into Monday morning in northeast Alabama, but no issues are expected thanks to limited moisture and warm ground temperatures.
