The Miami Marlins on Monday announced that Gabe Kapler has been promoted to general manager, making him the defacto No. 2 in baseball operations under president of baseball operations Peter Bendix.

Kapler has spent the past two seasons as one of the Marlins’ two assistant general managers alongside Brian Chattin. His focus was primarily on player, coach and staff development. Miami’s minor-league system made notable progress last season, with four affiliates making the postseason and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp winning the Triple A national championship.

“It is an exciting time to be part of the Marlins organization, and I am ready to continue the great work we are doing here, alongside Peter and our entire Baseball Operations staff,” Kapler said in a statement. “The growth and momentum we’ve built are a direct reflection of a clear vision, a strong culture, and an incredible team working together toward a shared goal. I’m proud to help continue that progress and contribute to what’s ahead.”

In addition to Kapler’s promotion, two other members of the Marlins’ baseball operations department received promotions.

Frankie Piliere, who has been the team’s director of amateur scouting the past two years, now holds the title of vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives. Piliere has overseen the Marlins’ MLB drafts the past two years. Nine of Miami’s current top 30 prospects were acquired in those two drafts.

Vinesh Kanthan, who also joined the organization ahead of the 2024 season as a director of baseball operations, is now a senior director of baseball operations.

“These three leaders have each made a meaningful impact since joining our team, exemplifying the values that define our culture: driving innovation across every area of the team, leading with a forward-thinking mindset, and elevating those around them as great teammates,” Bendix said in a statement. “Their advancement is a testament to the caliber of talent and person within our organization and our continued commitment to building a culture of collaboration and excellence.”
