Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys preview

The Dallas Cowboys have provided plenty of entertainment for NFL fans this season without being particularly successful.

They have been the second-highest scorers in the league but they also rank 31st of the 32 teams for points conceded and yards allowed. A 3-4-1 record shows how inconsistent they have been but they have fared much better in their three home games and can extend that trend with a win over Arizona on Monday night.

The Cowboys’ defence has been one of the worst in the NFL all season since trading away star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, while cornerback Trevon Diggs is now on injured reserve.

However, they have averaged a mammoth 41 points per game at home and they could have too much firepower for the Cardinals to keep up with.

The visitors will again start back-up QB Jacoby Brissett as starter Kyler Murray continues to recover from a foot injury. The Cardinals have lost five in a row after a 2-0 start and have lacked the killer instinct to turn close games into wins.

The Cardinals have given up 27 points per game when they have met the strong offences of Seattle, Indianapolis and Green Bay this season and they could be the latest team to wilt in the face of the free-flowing Cowboys offence, who have averaged 441 yards per game at home.

CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens form a formidable wide-receiver duo and they could wreak havoc against a Cardinals defence that ranks 27th in opponent pass completion percentage and 25th in opponent pass yards per game with a tally of 234.9.

The fallible Cowboys defence also looks likely to struggle to turn things around against a capable Arizona offence, so the best bet on the game could be going over on total points.
