New Cowboys linebacker Logan Wilson has perfect nickname to play in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly made their first trade ahead of the deadline and it’s for a player who has the perfect nickname.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys are acquiring linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Wilson has a nickname that makes this pairing a match made in heaven. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Wilson’s nickname is actually “The Cowboy.”
Wilson picked up the nickname because not only did he play at Wyoming with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, he is from the state, also.
That isn’t the only nickname Wilson has picked up, though, as the former Wyoming star is also dubbed “Governor,” which he garnered during his college days.
While Wilson’s nickname is perfect for Dallas, but we’ll see if he’ll be a fit when he actually gets on the field.
The Cowboys had clear needs at every level of the defense, so a trade for Wilson is understandable, although many are wondering if the Cowboys should do anything after suffering yet another ugly loss on Monday night.
If he can return to form, Wilson — who was once on a star trajectory before struggles in recent years — and DeMarvion Overshown could make for a strong duo at the position.
That said, Cowboys fans should definitely temper expectations.
Wilson has struggled in 2025, both in run defense and coverage, and so much so that he got benched in favor of rookie Barrett Carter. That is obviously not a good sign for his chances of working out in Dallas.
Dallas is obviously hoping a change of scenery helps, and if it does, the Cowboys will have a multi-year solution in Wilson, who remains under contract through the 2027 campaign.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted the team could make more than one trade on Tuesday, so Dallas might not be done yet.
