St. Paul mayoral candidates: 5 vying for office

Elections: Races in Minneapolis, St. Paul

It’s a field of five in the race to be mayor of St. Paul, the state’s second most populous city.

The five candidates are:

  • Melvin Carter (incumbent),
  • Kaohly Her,
  • Yan Chen,
  • Mike Hilborn, and
  • Adam Dullinger.

Carter is seeking a third term as mayor after winning handily in 2017 and 2021 while his four challengers, led by fourth-term Minnesota Rep. Kaohly Her, are trying to unseat him.

Carter, Her and Chen have each appeared in multiple debates.

In St. Paul, all races are nonpartisan, so voters won’t see any affiliation next to the candidates’ names.

St. Paul, like Minneapolis, uses ranked choice voting, meaning voters can select multiple candidates on the ballot in whatever order they’d like. Unlike in Minneapolis, St. Paul voters can rank up to six candidates. Read about how it works at the link below.
