These actors don’t just dress up for work.

Broadway stars may throw on a costume eight times a week for work, but they also dress up at least one day a year for play! Many familiar faces from Broadway and beyond dressed up for Halloween this year, whether they were attending a soirée, or hanging out backstage at a show.

See their costumes below—which ranged from musical characters like Joe Gillis, and Hollywood stars like Elizabeth Taylor.

Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff dressed up as his former Glee co-star and IRL best friend Lea Michele this Hallow’s eve, posing with Just In Time cast members Sarah Hyland and Sadie Dickerson, who wore chess piece-shaped hats. The photo paid homage to the promotional image and Playbill cover for the Broadway revival of Chess, which Michele is currently starring in.

The stars of the Waiting for Godot revival, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, on Broadway paid homage to another of Jamie Lloyd’s famed revivals: Last season’s bloody reimagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, where Tom Francis took his curtain call bows shirtless and bathed in blood. (Not to mention, Lloyd has staged another revival featuring a drenched shirtless man; the London Palladium production of Evita culminated in star Diego Andres Rodriguez shirtless, covered in a blue paint-like fluid.)

Jenna Bainbridge and Danny Quadrino as Thing 1 and Thing 2

Wicked stars Bainbridge and Quadrino teamed up to wear some Dr. Seuss- inspired costumes, with Bainbridge as The Cat in the Hat’s Thing 1 and Quadrino as Thing 2. It’s certainly a fitting nod to the mischievous relationship between their onstage characters, Nessarose and Boq.

Lin Manuel-Miranda as Everyone on TikTok as Lin Manuel-Miranda in Hamilton

With arguably the funniest Broadway-inspired costume of the year, Hamilton creator and original star Miranda paid tribute to a recent TikTok trend, which churned out thousands of videos of people dressed like Miranda in Hamilton while lip-syncing to the show’s number “It’s Quiet Uptown” and crawling out a window. Miranda has clearly been aware of the viral phenomenon, and it was only a matter of time until he put his own spin on it.

Oscar winner (and The Baker’s Wife) Ariana DeBose selected a costume fit for a pop culture queen, dressing up as the eternally glamorous Elizabeth Taylor. With an illustrious career such as DeBose’s, it only feels natural to see her shine in this outfit.

Ben Platt and Noah Galvin as Hugh Hefner and a Playboy Bunny

Tony Award winner Ben Platt and his husband (and Dear Evan Hansen actor) Noah Galvin chose a cheeky reference to a certain men’s magazine, with Platt decked out in a very 1970s robe and sunglasses, and Galvin stunning in a one-piece corset and fishnets. The power couple never disappoint with their red carpet looks, and clearly they go just as hard for Halloween together.
