Australia vs India LIVE – Updates from fourth T20I as tourists put into bat

Australia 118-9 (18 overs) – Ellis 1, Zampa 0

That concludes Bumrah’s spell. He finishes with 1-27 off four.

Wicket! Dwarshuis bowled Bumrah (5) – Australia 118-9

Suryakumar Yadav decides now is the right time to give Bumrah his fourth and final over. His first is flicked straight to the fielder in the leg side, before Dwarshuis drives to the cover boundary for one off the second.

Ellis is on strike now, and he gets bamboozled by a slower ball that somehow bounces over the stumps.

There’s then another play and miss on a slower delivery that goes wide of the off peg, before Ellis finally connects to push into the offside for one.

The final ball of the over is a slower one. Dwarshuis completely misreads it and gets bowled, middle stump.

Australia 116-8 (17 overs) – Dwarshuis 4, Ellis 0

No hat-trick, as Ellis blocks into the off side, but what an over! Two off it, plus two wickets.

Wicket! Bartlett caught and bowled Washington (0) – 116-8

Bartlett is in and goes first ball! Caught and bowled as he plays straight back to Washington, who picks up his 50th wicket in T20 internationals. He’s on a hat-trick!

Wicket! Stoinis LBW to Washington (17) – Australia 116-7

So, 54 needed off 24 deliveries. It’s a tough ask. Washington Sundar comes on for the 17th, his first of the night.

He bowls flat and straight and only concedes a couple of singles off his first three balls before Stoinis attempts a reverse sweep that hits the pads. India go up for the appeal, and the on field umpire obliges!

Australia review, but in vain. That could be their hopes of winning over.

Australia 114-6 (16 overs) – Stoinis 16, Dwarshuis 3

Over 16 to be bowled by Bumrah, who’s punched down the ground for a single by Stoinis.

Dwarshuis knows how to hit a big ball and takes a couple off his first delivery, before adding a further one with a little dab into the off side.

Next up is a full toss and Stoinis hits a lovely square drive out to backward point, dashing back for a two.

He then finally finds the boundary with a terrific pull that goes in front of square for four, before driving to cover for one.

Australia 103-6 (15 overs) – Stoinis 8, Dwarshuis 0

That was the last ball of the 15th over. Just four off it, and Varun finishes with figures of 1-26.

Wicket! Maxwell bowled Varun (2) – Australia 103-6

Varun will finish off. Maxwell tucks him into the leg side for a quick single. Stoinis, on five off nine, then cuts straight to point, before dragging down the ground back to the bowler. That’s two more dots.

He turns to the sweep and hits an aerial one out to mid-wicket for two.

Australia really have hit the buffers here, as Stoinis scampers through for another run from another inside edge that goes to short fine leg.

The final ball of the over is to Maxwell, who tries to slash him into the offside and gets bowled! Big, big trouble.

Australia 99-5 (14 overs) – Stoinis 5, Maxwell 1

That brings Glenn Maxwell to the crease on his return from injury. He takes a dot and a single off his first two balls.

Something special is needed now, for sure. Australia require 69 off 39 balls.

Stoinis is still there, but misses a bouncer, and then sees out two further dots.

Wicket! Philippe caught Varun off Arshdeep (10) – Australia 98-5

Australia are crumbling! Philippe clips the first ball of Arshdeep’s over straight to Varun, who’s at a fairly straight mid-wicket.

Australia 98-4 (13 overs) – Philippe 10, Stoinis 5

Axar Patel will see out his spell, and his flight and guile is causing all kinds of problems.

After a dot to start, Philippe comes down the wicket and edges into the leg side for one. Stoinis then gets tied up in knots with a bottom edge for one to short fine leg.

A single and a dot means Axar finishes with magnificent figures of 2-20.

Australia 95-4 (12 overs) – Philippe 8, Stoinis 4

Dube has two wickets now. He goes in search of a third against new batter Stoinis, who blocks his first two deliveries and then sees out the over with superb slash over backward point for four.

Wicket! David caught Suryakumar off Dube (14) – Australia 91-4

Dube gets a second over. His second ball comes out of the back of the hand. David picks it and nearly hits him out of the stadium with a huge hit over cow.

Ball three is shorter, but also slow, and David is too quick on his pull shot, which he skies. It’s a catching opportunity at cover, and Suryakumar isn’t dropping that!

Australia 84-3 (11 overs) – David 8, Philippe 7

There’s a huge appeal for LBW off the first ball of Varun’s third over as Philippe attempts a lapped sweep. It’s turned down, and India do not review – rightly so, as replays show the batter had got outside the line of off stump.

They scamper a leg bye, then there are a couple of singles before the bowler drags one down and David pins him through mid-wicket for a one-bounce four.

Varun finds his line and length quickly to finish with a couple of dots.

Australia 77-3 (10 overs) – David 3, Philippe 6

Josh Philippe joins Tim David and he nails his first ball to the mid-wicket boundary for four. The remaining four deliveries are all hit for singles. We’re half-way through the chase.

Wicket! Marsh caught by Arshdeep off Dube (30) – Australia 70-3

Dube takes the tenth. A wide off his first ball, then the second, a slower delivery, is pulled into the leg side for one.

That brings Marsh back on strike, and he swivels on another short one, trying to find the deep square leg boundary, but Arshdeep comes around to catch! Big wicket!

Australia 68-2 (9 overs) – Marsh 30, David 1

The powerful Tim David is in at five. He takes a single into the leg side off his first delivery. Another good over from Axar!

Wicket! Inglis bowled by Axar (12) – India 67-2

A hard sweep from Marsh, who get a big stride down the wicket too, sends the first ball of Axar’s next over to the boundary.

The bowler then tightens up, and his next three deliveries only go for a couple, before Inglis runs down to the fifth ball and sees his middle stump rocked back.

The batter never really got going and used up 11 balls for his 12.

Australia 62-1 (8 overs) – Marsh 25, Inglis 12

Varun is back. He enduces a mistake from Marsh, who looks to go big down the ground, bit mistimes it. Abhishek rushes towards and appears to have clung on to a stunning catch, only for the ball the bounce out as his elbows hit the ground.

That’s a let off for the batter, who takes two off the delivery, and a single off the next ball.

Five from four so far in the over. Inglis scampers another one off a tuck into the leg side, before Marsh hangs his head in frustration at a single to long-on that he clearly feels he could have done more with.

Australia 55-1 (7 overs) – Marsh 20, Inglis 10

Powerplay down, and after making the breakthrough in his last over, Axar continues, and he has a big caught behind appeal turned down against Marsh with his third ball.

That’s a dot, so is the second, before the Australian captain gets down on one knee and sends a powerful sweep to the square leg boundary.

Next up is a lap sweep for two, before a push down the ground for one.

Inglis is now back on strike and tries to cut a short one. The ‘keeper goes up for a big appeal, not supported by the bowler, but India review after it’s turned down on field. There’s nothing on snicko.

Australia 48-1 (6 overs) – Marsh 13, Inglis 10

After a couiple of overs of spin, it’s back to the pace of Jasprit Bumrah.

He bowls an uncharacteristically short and wide one to Inglis, who carves him to the backward point boundary for four. The fourth ball is straight, but is guided magestically through the same area.

A couple of tidy dots to finish.

Australia 39-1 (5 overs) – Marsh 11, Inglis 2

Josh Inglies replaces Short. His first delivery is floated up to him, with some nice shape, and he drives through extra cover for a couple. A successful over for Axar. Just four runs, plus the wicket, off it.

Wicket! Short LBW to Axar (25). India 37-1

Axar Patel is introduced now. A single off his first ball from Short, who now has 25 off 18. That brings Marsh on strike, but he’s not got going yet. A couple of dots, then a quick single to to mid-off.

Short then attempts a huge slog sweep. It hits the pads and the Indian side go up for LBW. It’s turned down by the standing umpire, and so it’s sent upstairs, and successfully so! There’s the breakthrough! Much, much needed!

Australia 35-0 (4 overs) – Marsh 11, Short 24

Spin for the first time now for India, in the form of Varun Chakravarthy. His second ball is a drag down and Short needs no second invitation in smashing another six.

The third, a googly, causes a few more problems, with the batter nearly bottom edging into his own stumps.

In fact, it’s a tidy finish to the over, with another dot, then a single and a two.

Australia 26-0 (3 overs) – Marsh 9, Short 17

Short goes BIG off the opening ball of the third over, taking Arshdeep down the ground for six. A couple of deliveries later he goes over the bowler’s head again, this time for a one-bounce four.

It’s turning into a big over. Marsh takes a single off the fourth before Marsh top edges a four over the ‘keeper for another boundary. They’re up and running now.

Australia 11-0 (2 overs) – Marsh 5, Short 6

Here’s Jasprit Bumrah to take the ball from the other end. He is on the money straight away, enducing a play and miss with his first delivery.

In fact, it’s three dots in a row, the third of which swings into the pads but is going well down leg.

Short finally gets off strike with a scampered single to mid-on, before Marsh guides a wide one past short third for four.

A dot to finish. Five off the over.

Australia 6-0 (1 over) – Marsh 1, Short 5

Marsh takes a single off the first ball, and then Arshdeep strays on to Short’s pads and gets clipped around the corner for four.

There are then a couple of dots, one of them off a big play and miss, either side of Short drilling down the ground, with Gill doing well to restrict him to just a single at mid-off.

Here we go!

Australia are in pursuit of 168 to win, and they will open up with Mitch Marsh and Matt Short. Arshdeep Singh takes the new ball for India.

India 167-8 (20 overs) – Axar 21, Varun 1

Varun Chakravarthy is in. He attempts a hook and mistimes is quite considerably, but they scamper a single.

Here’s the last ball of the innings. Axar Patel on strike. Stoinis sends him a full toss and it’s pulled into the leg side for a couple.

A more than handy 21 from Axar, who helps get his side up to a total.

Wicket! Arshdeep caught Philippe off Stoinis (0) – India 164-8

India desperately need some momentum and some runs as the final over begins. Stoinis will bowl it, and Axar mows his first ball over mid-wicket for a one-bounce four.

The second goes all the way, a bring swipe off a straight ball that flies over deep square leg.

The next ball is short. Axar pulls and tries to scamper two, but there’s only one there. That proves costly, because Arshdeep then sends a swipe high up in the air. Philippe claims the catch.

India 153-7 (19 overs) – Washington 11, Patel 7

Here comes Arshdeep Singh. A dot off his first, then Ellis sends down a second wide of the over.

He will finish with the sensational figures of 3-21 though as Arshdeep has a huge swing at the final delivery, only to miss by miles.

Wicket! Washington caught (sub) off Ellis (12) – India 152-7

The penultimate over is given to Ellis, and his first delivery, a slower ball, is sliced to deep third by Washington. It doesn’t quite carry, so they get a single.

A wide follows, then a dot, before a yorker is dabbed for one. Washington is then on the receiving end of another slower ball, and he mistimes it to mid-off. India lose another.

India 149-6 (18 overs) – Washington 11, Patel 7

Dwarshuis will now complete his allocation. India need to up the tempo, but are running out of wickets. Washington is more than capable though, and a slashing blade off the second ball sends the ball to the cover-point boundary.

A single down the ground makes it six off the first three balls. Zampa then lets a bouncing ball through his hands at short third as Axar dabs his way, meaning the batters can scamper back for three instead of one.

The over is completed with a push into the offside for one and a tuck around the corner for another couple.

India 137-6 (17 overs) – Washington 5, Patel 1

Two wickets in the over for Zampa, then, as Axar Patel comes to the crease and finds the fielder with his first delivery, before rocking back and dabbing into the offside for a single.

Zampa finishes with figures of 3-45 off his four.

Wicket! Sharma goes LBW to Zampa (3) – India 136-6

Washington Sundar is a very dangerous character and he’s in next. His first ball somehow makes it to the boundary after a horrendous misfield on the rope by Dwarshuis.

Sharma then appeals to get away with an LBW appeal off a sweep. Australia review though, and successfully. It’s hitting leg stump!

Wicket! Tilak caught by Inglis off Zampa (5) – India 130-5

This is becoming a bit concerning now for India. Tilak attempts a reverse sweep off Zampa, but it catches the glove and Inglies takes a tidy catch behind the stumps

India 130-4 (16 overs) – Tilak 5, Sharma 3

Wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma is his replacement. A dot ball initially, but then a very quick two. It’s another tidy over by Bartlett though, who finishes with 1, 2, 1.

Wicket! Suryakumar caught by David off Bartlett (20) – India 125-4

Bartlett will now bowl his final over and he takes a wicket, his first of the night, immediately, as Suryakumar skies one to deep mid-wicket, where Tim David comes round and takes a really good catch.

India 125-3 (15 overs) – Suryakumar 20, Tilak 2

Tilak Verma is the incoming batter. He takes a single off his first and second ball, while Suryakumar adds a run in between.

This has been very good by Ellis. Can he get out of the over? He certainly can. Another one, and then a slower ball that proves to be a dot.

He has bowled three overs now and has figures of 2-17!

Wicket! Gill bowled by Ellis for 46 – India 121-3

That is brilliant by Nathan Ellis! He’s a box of tricks and bowls a back of the hand slower ball. Gills tries to play it into the leg side but is far too early on the shot and loses his off stump.

India 121-2 (14 overs) – Gill 46, Suryakumar 18

Marcus Stoinis is back. He goes up for a huge LBW appeal off his first delivery. It’s given out on field, but Gill reviews immediately and the replays show a huge inside edge.

It’s actually a tidy start to the over, as the second ball is a dot too, but the third disappears into the stands for six as it is carted over deep mid-wicket. Massive, again.

That seems to have unsettled the bowler. Gill takes a two off his next ball, before Stoinis sends down a couple of wides.

He finishes with a clip off the pads for one and then Suryakumar hooking off his nose for two.

India 108-2 (13 overs) – Gill 37, Suryakumar 16

Gill comes down the wicket to the first ball of Zampa’s next over, and he drags it towards cow corner. Matt Short can’t get there, so collects on the bounce.

Suryakumar then goes over the top of cover for a couple, before a slog sweep looks destined to land in the hands of one of the boundary riders, only to keep going and somehow go all the way for six. The batter did not get anywhere near all of that.

He makes amends with the next one. Same ball, same shot, but this time into the second tier! That is huge!

Zampa adjusts his line and bowls a wide outside of off stump, while the last two balls go for singles. 18 off the over!

India 90-2 (12 overs) – Gill 34, Suryakumar 1

That dismissal brings Suryakumar Yadav to the crease. His first ball is short and gets hooked to deep fine leg for one. Gill keeps ticking along with another one, before Ellis finishes a magnificent over with a dot.

Wicket! Dube bowled Ellis (22) – India 88-2

Nathan Ellis comes on for his second over and he frustrates Dube with a couple of dot balls at the start of the over.

His third ball is a delightful slower ball and the batter gets himself in a bit of a tangle and is bowled!

India 88-1 (11 overs) – Dube 22, Gill 34

Zampa is back and sees his second ball smashes for six by Dube, who gets down on one knee and carts him over the sight screen. That one is massive!

There’s a little pause in proceedings to search for the ball, and once we resume, Dube deftly edges past the ‘keeper for two. This is becoming an expensive over, even more so when a wide is followed by a tickle to short fine leg for another couple.

Two balls to go; the first is slashed to wide long-off for one, while Gill rounds off with dot.

India 75-1 (10 overs) – Dube 11, Gill 33

Barlett will bowl the tenth. Dube takes his first ball for a single, before Gill punches straight to a fielder and then pulls a shortish delivery to deep mid-wicket for one.

Dube then gets tucked up by a ball on his hip, and a third dot of the over follows. The batter takes a couple off the final delivery, squeezed between two fielders behind square on the offside.

India 71-1 (9 overs) – Dube 8, Gill 32

Dwarshuis is back for his third over, and is immediately carted to the boundary by Dube, who sits back and beautifully guides a ball that is ever so slightly wide of off stump through backward point.

The bowler managers to tighten up his line though, and the next four balls go for three runs between them, before Dube tucks a short ball down to fine leg for a couple.

India 62-1 (8 overs) – Dube 3, Gill 29

Stoinis continues for Australia and shows some excellent changes of pace throughout a tidy over that sees just three runs come off the bat, accompanied by a leg bye.

India 58-1 (7 overs) – Dube 1, Gill 27

Shivam Dube is promoted to No. 3 for India. A single of his first ball, and then Gill adding another one, to round off a successful Zampa over.

Wicket! Abhishek caught David off Zampa (28) – India 56-1

With the powerplay down, Adam Zampa, who’s partner gave birth last night, is into the attack.

A leg bye off his opening ball brings Abhishek on strike, and he dances down the track to smash the bowler straight back over his head for the first six of the night. That one actually went over the sight screen.

Zampa pulls back his length, so the third delivery is sliced along the ground to point, before Abhishek tries to repeat the big hitting, but does not get enough of it.

A smash to wide long-on goes into the grateful hands of Tim David, who takes a fine catch down on one knee.

India 49-0 (6 overs) – Abhishek 22, Gill 26

The final over of the powerplay will be bowled by Marcus Stoinis. A tucked run to backward square leg off his first ball is followed by Abhishek finally finding the boundary again, pulling a short ball off his nose through mid-wicket for four.

A couple of singles follow before another short ball surprises Abhishek, climbing high and catching the batter on his left shoulder.

That leads to a pause in proceedings as the medics come to check the batter is okay, but he shows no ill effects when backing away and slapping the final delivery over the top of the ring for four on the offside.

India 38-0 (5 overs) – Abhishek 13, Gill 24

Bartlett is back, taking the fifth over as he changes ends. A single off the first ball, before a huge swing and a miss from a slower ball that swings away from Abhishek.

The batter has just got a little stuck of late. He’s on 12 off 12 before slashing a single through backward point.

Gill then produces an incredible bit of timing to send a wristy flick through mid-wicket for four, with barely any backlift at all.

He’s looking in very good touch, and scampers a quick single off ball five, before Bartlett finishes with a dot as Abhishek mistimes a pull to mid-wicket.

India 31-0 (4 overs) – Abhishek 12, Gill 18

Australia make their first bowling change, as Nathan Ellis takes the fourth over. His first delivery is wayward, on Gill’s pads and he clips it to the boundary through fine leg.

The second is straight again, and is tucked to square leg for a pair, before the Test match skipper takes a step down and slaps another four through wide mid-off for four.

Ellis then manages to tighten up, with the only other run off the over a pushed single off a slower ball.

India 20-0 (3 overs) – Abhishek 12, Gill 7

Shubman Gill gets in on the act now, as he strikes his first boundary off the opening ball of Dwarshuis’ second over.

It’s a tidy set from the bowler though. He then does dot, one, dot before being hooked for two in front of square, with the ball landing safely in the outfield.

India 13-0 (2 overs) – Abhishek 10, Gill 2

Bartlett takes the new ball at the other end and sees his second ball smashed over the top of extra cover for a one-bounce four by Abhishek. The batter then has a slice of fortune with a mistimed strike over long on that goes over Mitchell Marsh’s head for three.

How to watch

A reminder that the entire series, as well as the Ashes, which get underway on Friday, November 21, are live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

India 3-0 (1 over) – Abhishek 2, Gill 1

Dwarshuis takes the new ball and a fairly uneventful over sees India knock three singles. There was nearly a breakthrough with the second ball though, which Abhishek skied into the deep, only to be dropped by Xavier Bartlett in the deep.
