The countdown to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s Wicked: For Good continues Thursday with the TV special Wicked: One Wonderful Night.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night comes two weeks ahead of the release of Wicked: For Good, the second part of the sprawling big-screen adaptation of the classic Broadway musical that premiered in 2003, starring Idina Menzel as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West; and Kristen Chenoweth as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.
Wicked: For Good, of course, follows the events of the 2024 movie musical blockbuster Wicked, starring Erivo as Elphaba and Grande as Glinda. Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked was not only a smash hit in theaters, earning $755.5 million worldwide against a $145 million budget (per The Numbers), it also earned 10 Oscar nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Actress for Erivo and Best Supporting Actress for Grande.
The official logline for Wicked: One Wonderful Night reads, “Filmed at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Wicked: One Wonderful Night will transform the legendary venue into a breathtaking Emerald City-inspired set, complete with a 37-piece live orchestra led by the award-winning musical director Stephen Oremus, plus jaw-dropping musical numbers and unforgettable performances.”
The star-studded musical event will feature cast members from both Wicked films. The television event will premiere on NBC-TV on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will begin streaming on Peacock on Friday.

Naturally, the two main stars for Wicked and Wicked: For Good — Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande — will be among the performers during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special.
A sneak peek video released by NBC below revealed that Erivo and Grande will sing “What is This Feeling?”

In addition, Ariana Grande will sing “Popular,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero) was unable to attend the Wicked and Wicked: For Good event, so Bowen Yang (Pfannee), Marissa Bode (Nessarose) and Ethan Slater (Boq) stepped in to perform his song, “Dancing Through Life.” See a clip from the performance below.

The Special Will Also Include Clips From Two New Songs From ‘Wicked: For Good’
A teaser video for Wicked: One Wonderful Night revealed that clips of two new songs will be shown during the special. Written by Wicked’s Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, the songs (per EW) are “No Place Like Home,” which will be performed in the movie by Cynthia Erivo and “The Girl in the Bubble,” which will be performed by Ariana Grande.
Schwartz will also be featured during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special, along with director Jon M. Chu and “surprise guests,” NBC announced.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night premieres on NBC-TV on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will begin streaming on Peacock on Friday.
