Filing to run for state, Wichita County primaries opens Saturday

No sooner has one election finished than Texas officials must gear up for the next round of voting.

The filing period for candidates in the March 2026 party primaries opens Saturday and continues through Dec.8.

Primary Election Day will be March 3 and will decide party candidates for many state and county offices in the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

Major state offices that will be up for grabs in 2026 include U.S. senator, all U.S. representatives, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and all state representative seats, including House District 69, which includes Wichita County.

Sixteen state senate seats are on the ballot, including Senate District 28, which includes part of Wichita County and Wichita Falls.

Here are the Wichita County offices that will be on the ballot:

  • County judge
  • District clerk
  • County clerk
  • County treasurer
  • County commissioner Precinct 2
  • County commissioner Precinct 4
  • Sheriff, Unexpired term
  • 30th District Court judge
  • County Court at Law No. 1 judge
  • County Court at Law No. 2 judge
  • District attorney
  • Justice of the peace, Precinct 1, Place 2
  • Justice of the peace, Precinct 2
  • Justice of the peace, Precinct 3
  • Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4

The November 2026 ballots will also include city and school district elections, but those positions are not filed by party, do not participate in primaries and will have candidate filing periods later in 2026.
