There were a lot of questions regarding the future of Rohit Sharma after he returned to Team India after seven months in the three-match ODI series against Australia. He finished the series with a bang as he slammed his 33rd century in the final ODI, which was his final innings in Australia. Days after smashing multiple records in Sydney, Rohit has managed to achieve a feat for the first time in his 18-year-old ODI career, smashing yet another world record.Rohit Sharma displaced current India captain Shubman Gill as the new no.1 batter in the ICC ODI rankings, with 781 points. This is the fist time he has achieved this feat since he made his ODI debut in 2007 against Ireland.
At 38 years and 182 days old, Rohit Sharma has become the oldest player in history to become the no.1 batter in the ICC ODI rankings.
Rohit Sharma had a solid ODI series against Australia, where he slammed 202 runs, including a 73-run knock in the second ODI and a Player of the Match-winning knock of 121 in the finam game. Rohit Sharma’s ODI Retirement Date Revealed
In an interaction with PTI, Dinesh Lad said that his performances in the ODI series against Australia answered critics who were calling for his retirement because he was not performing. He then informed that Rohit will retire after playing the ODI World Cup 2027, and is preparing for the same.
“This is a special moment. There were talks that he was not performing, that he should stop playing cricket, but he played two good innings in the last two matches, 75 (73) first and now 120 (121*), and has shown he is still a top player who’ll still contribute to the country,” Lad said.
“The only secret is his self-confidence. That’s why he hasn’t retired. He wants to play the 2027 World Cup and only retire after that, and he’s preparing for that,” he added.
