The Checkpoint Flag is a new item added with the Roots update on November 5, 2025. It’s an extremely useful item to find, as it essentially gives you an extra life. Here’s how to use it!
Plant the Flag
The flag’s no use sitting in your inventory – it needs to be placed on the ground to be activated. You can place it anywhere relatively flat, but we recommend you pick somewhere that’s definitely safe, as if you end up respawning there you will be prone and we don’t want you rolling away to your death again.
We recommend saving the Checkpoint Flag for the Kiln, and using it strategically before you attempt something risky.
Once placed, the flag will fly in the color of your Scout.
Respawning
If the worst comes to pass and you end up dying (not just falling unconscious), you will suddenly reappear back at your Checkpoint Flag with full health and your inventory intact (although if you burned to death, all your belongings will be incinerated. Sorry.)
This consumes the flag, so please try not to die again!
