His accolades and on-pitch triumphs, including two All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, seven Munster titles and four National Leagues, mean the world to the 26 year old – yet he remains grounded and modest.
He also bagged Young Footballer of the Year in 2018 and Footballer of the Year in 2022 and 2023.
Clifford’s performances in the 2025 All-Ireland football championship were crucial as Kerry took home Sam Maguire for the first time since 2022.
Tonight, Clifford will almost certainly be awarded a fifth All-Star and is expected to be named footballer of the year for the third time.
David likes to keep his private life just that, but read on below to learn a little about his life away from the bright lights.

Siblings
David has one sister named Shelly, and a brother named Paudie.
Paudie also plays on the Kerry team and is a key cog in Jack O’Connor’s masterplan.
A couple of years ago, Paudie spoke about what it was like to be David’s brother and teammate.
We’ve a good relationship, we’re good friends. We’d just hop ideas off each other when it comes to football, things like that.”
The Kerry man reflected on their childhood together and practice football outside.
“We were always playing out the side of the house,” he added. “We’ve a decent enough size of a lawn, and a wall and a goal. So we’ve been playing against each other for years, that’s how it all started. It being so competitive probably helped.”

“Yeah, he’s gone mad for sport at the moment. He’s wearing jerseys and he loves it.
“But he’s not too happy with me going out training because I’m going to be gone for a couple of hours. He loves coming along with me to watch the Fossa games at the weekend. He’s great craic.”

Speaking after winning footballer of the year in 2023, David had this to say about his mother:
“She would have done everything for us. In terms of advice or talking about matches, that wasn’t her thing.
“She didn’t want to be that kind of a mother. I suppose it was the support she always gave us that was the big thing. No matter what we were doing, she would have always backed us. Even if were wrong in different situations, we were always right in her eyes. So it was always great to have that sort of support.”
