Novak Djokovic Plays ‘Best Tennis’ To Reach Athens Final

Novak Djokovic played his ‘best tennis’ to defeat Yannick Hanfmann 6-3 6-4 to reach the Athens final.

The Serb has had the perfect preparation for the Nitto ATP Finals next week as he defeated Hanfmann in straight sets.

It means Djokovic’s bid for a 101st career title is still on as he looks for momentum heading into Turin.

Speaking after the match Djokovic hailed the Centre Court in Athens as one of the most beautiful as he played his best tennis of the week so far, “Thank you for filling out this amazing stadium again,” Djokovic explained to the ATP website.

“It’s my third match on centre court, but every time I walk out I’m amazed. I’ve played in some of the most beautiful indoor arenas in the world, but I can definitely say this is one of the top three I’ve ever played in.

“I think it was the best tennis I’ve played this tournament. It came at the right time. Hanfmann poses a great threat because he serves big, has a big game, so I needed to really stay focused. I was a break down in the second, but I held my composure. I’m very excited for the final.”

Next up for Djokovic will either be Sebastian Korda or Lorenzo Musetti who face each other in the second semi-final.

If Musetti wins then he would face Djokovic for the chance to qualify for next week’s season finale in Turin.

Should Musetti not win the title in Athens then it would be Felix Auger-Aliassime who would compete in Turin.
