The first notable snowfall of the season in eastern Ontario could bring up to 15 centimetres in and around Ottawa-Gatineau on Sunday.

Environment Canada sent out three special weather statements Friday afternoon that cover most of eastern Ontario, plus Gatineau and communities to its east.

That zone of the Outaouais has the highest snowfall floor, with 10 to 15 centimetres possible Sunday afternoon and night.

Ottawa-Gatineau, Kingston and communities east of places such as Cobden, Denbigh and Tweed could get five to 15 centimetres starting that morning.

West of that is looking at about two to 10 centimetres. There are no alerts for the rest of western Quebec, nor eastern Ontario’s northwest corner around Deep River.

While flakes were spotted around Bancroft last week, Ottawa’s international airport weather station hasn’t measured snow since mid-April.

Environment Canada asks drivers to be prepared for slippery roads and adjust plans and techniques accordingly.
