The action continues in round 12 of the Spanish La Liga as Girona and Deportivo Alaves square off at the Estadi Montilivi on Saturday. Both sides head into the weekend off the back of contrasting results, with Eduardo Coudet’s men picking up a hard-fought home victory over Espanyol.
Girona continue to struggle for results at the wrong end of the table as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Getafe when the two sides met at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez last Friday.
Michel’s side have failed to win 10 of their 11 matches in the league this season, losing six and claiming four draws to sit rock-bottom in the table with just seven points from a possible 33.
Central to Girona’s poor performance this season has been their struggles at the defensive end of the pitch, where they have conceded 24 goals already while scoring 10 so far.
On the other hand, Alaves picked up consecutive victories for the first time this season last Sunday when they edged out Espanyol 2-1 at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.
Before that, Coudet’s men booked their spot in the second round of the Copa del Rey on October 30 with a resounding 7-0 victory over Spanish amateur side CD Getxo.
Alaves have picked up four wins and three draws from their 11 La Liga games so far to collect 15 points and sit eighth in the table, three points off sixth-placed Espanyol.
