Episode 7 Recap: Awkward feud between two women reaches boiling point over ‘friendzoning’ – before brutal elimination decides final three

Welcome to the final two weeks of The Golden Bachelor – what a journey it has been so far!

With only five women remaining in Bear’s search for love, it’s definitely crunch time.

Every moment counts… as does every move. Grab your tights and your tutus, we’re at the Sydney Opera House and it’s ballet time.

Group date

So far, Bear’s been subjecting the poor women to things he likes, such as sailing on the beautiful Sydney harbour and spending time in lush, green nature.

It’s been tough.

But today, he’s the one getting out of his comfort zone because they’re getting their dance on!

Some of the women are excited because they like dancing. All of them are excited at maybe seeing Bear in tights.

No tights? Boo! (Nine)

Each woman has a ballet move to learn with Bear and we have a feeling this is about to get competitive.

Kim’s very jealous of Sunny’s tenacity to go first, learning a romantic move with a lift.

And as Janette watches on, she’s getting more and more in her head.

”I do like him and I can imagine a future with him in it but it’s really hard to say in this environment,” she says.

It’s clear she’s uncomfortable during her turn dancing, as she cannot even look Bear in the eye.

Janette’s not having much fun. (Nine)

With the lesson over, Bear chooses Jan for a special date watching Sleeping Beauty followed by champagne and some dancing of their own.

It’s been a long time since Jan and Bear had some one-on-one time but they pick up right where they left off.

Look at that stunning smile! (Nine)

”It’s surreal, it’s a date that I could never have dreamed of and for Bear to organise this, it takes my breath away,” Jan says.

“I’m going to cry! … It’s really nice to receive something so special, just for me.”

Jan opens up about her divorce 26 years ago and how the infidelity in her marriage impacted her.

After being “badly burnt” she’s ready to embrace love again.

They chat about family, of which Bear has “an enormous… an enormous… extended family”.

He really drew that out out, didn’t he?

Cheeky!

Single date

After the awkward dance class, Janette is surprised and grateful to be the first woman to get two single dates.

Maybe the fresh sea air will take away her inhibitions!

They’re continuing their tradition of dates on the water… although, this time the cruise ship is slightly bigger than Bear’s yacht.

They move from lounging on the deck to a meal inside where Janette tells Bear about her dad, who left her family when she was seven.

Finally, they head to the pool and it’s not just the saxophone-heavy music that gives this a steamy vibe.

There’s a waterfall feature and turns out, that’s the perfect place for a pash.

The Notebook says hi. (Nine)

Post-snog, they cheers to them – and Bear gives Janette the perfect opportunity to open up about her feelings.

…She does not.

“I had my moment to say what I should’ve said and I didn’t take it, I got scared,” she says.

The woman write erotica

While Janette and Bear set sail, Kim has a fun task for those stuck at the mansion: creating a steamy story.

Kim’s a proud writer of erotic tales for her partners, so why not brainstorm one about this rather unique dating experience?

The problem, however, is that she and Sunny have rather different ideas.

She’s not a 50 Shades fan. (Nine)

She likes to keep things more, uhhhh, metaphorical, while Sunny’s open to saying it exactly how it is.

“At our age we don’t have time to beat around the bush!” she explains.

Meanwhile Sunny LOVES 50 Shades. (Nine)

Meanwhile, Gera’s head is moving back-and-forth between them like she’s at the Australian Open.

“Never in my life did I think I’d see a military doctor and a CEO fighting over erotic fiction,” she reacts.

Now that is a brand new sentence!

“Help.” (Nine)

In the end, the story is about Bear and a woman with chestnut hair, hazel eyes and sometimes pale, sometimes olive skin going skinny dipping in the moon light.

Sounds riveting.

Cocktail party

The large mansion lawn is looking rather empty with just five women remaining!

Bear’s first point of order is to pull Sunny away and unlike Janette, she has no problem letting her walls down.

She opens up about beginning to fall for Bear and some much less wholesome things.

There goes that sexy saxophone music again!

I think he’s pleased. (Nine)

As Bear spends time with the others, Sunny and Kim’s rivalry culminates in a very awkward convo.

Sunny quizzes Kim on her time with Bear – asking if it’s just “friend zone”.

“Definitely not a friend zone, definitely comfortable in a lover’s way,” Kim replies.

Awkward! (Nine)

Rose ceremony

There are just three roses tonight, meaning two will be sent home.

Sunny is delighted to receive the first rose, followed by Janette.

Lastly, Kim’s name is called. That means it’s the end of the road for Gera and Jan.

Tomorrow night, final three means it’s time for Homestays!

Bear will be in the hot seat as he visits Janette, Kim and Sunny’s hometowns and meets their families.

With protective kids and curveball questions – you’re going to want to clear your schedules for this!
