A Demogorgon army and Dustin as the hero? Stranger Things 5 gets it

The final season of Stranger Things is mere days away. Netflix will release the first batch of episodes from season 5 — which is being dubbed Volume 1 — on Wednesday, Nov. 26, just in time for Thanksgiving. Ahead of that, though, we have gotten the official trailer for Volume 1, which packs quite a punch.
In the clip, we see just our favorite Hawkins kids preparing for their final battle against Vecna. More importantly, though, we see the arrival of the Upside Down into the real world. A portal opens up, launching an army of horrifying Demogorgons into our world. And it looks like they’re hunting our friends, even cornering them in a system of caves at one point.
Surprisingly, it’s Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) who seems to be taking on a leadership role this season. He comes off as the man making the plans, taking point on missions with Steve and the group. He even solemnly tells his friends, “I want to see Vecna’s heart on a platter.” What happened to the sweet young man that sang the theme of The NeverEnding Story with his girlfriend over a ham radio?
It’s probably a good thing he’s in charge, though, because there’s basically no adult supervision in the trailer. Hopper (David Harbour) appears in one shot with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Joyce (Winona Ryder) is nowhere to be seen, and Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) looks like he’s just there to yell and drive.
The trailer was first revealed at Netflix’s One Last Bike Ride event on Sunday. The event shut down Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles, allowing people to walk, run, skate, or ride all over a street that’s usually stuffed with cars. While there were games, contests, and a live musical performance for those that attended, the main event was trailer’s premiere on the main stage.
Netflix’s Stranger Things 5 Volume 1 is coming in hot on Nov. 26, so prepare your Thanksgiving viewing plans now.
