This week’s SNF contest pits the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Los Angeles Chargers, each coming off tough in-conference wins in Week 9. It’s an AFC showdown between an ascendant QB talent in the Chargers’ Justin Herbert and a future Pro Football Hall of Fame QB veteran in the Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers… and it’s all going down this weekend on NBC and Peacock.
The Sunday slate of Week 10 wraps up when the Los Angeles Chargers host the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Sunday Night Football.”
It’s officially the second half of the season and both teams have their eyes on the playoffs. For the Chargers, it’s about keeping pace in a crowded AFC wild card race and not falling too far behind the division-leading Denver Broncos.
For the Steelers, it’s about maintaining their cushion in the AFC North over the rival Baltimore Ravens. While Sunday night’s game won’t make-or-break either team’s season, it could be a significant punch landed ahead of a potential rematch in January.
This will be Aaron Rodgers’ 38th career start on “Sunday Night Football,” the most by a quarterback in NFL history. He is 21-16 on Sunday nights, tied with Tom Brady for the all-time “SNF” wins record. Rodgers has 9,612 career passing yards on “Sunday Night Football,” second to Brady for the all-time mark.

Could the Steelers offense be rounding into form? That’s a big question entering “SNF.” Aaron Rodgers and Co. have put up 25 points or more in their last three matchups, potentially indicative of a little more consistency moving forward. The bigger question is their defense: While they’re coming off allowed just 20 points to the high-powered Colts in Week 9, their issues stopping offenses all season have been apparent. The Chargers win tonight on Herber’s arm.
Former USC and NFL linebacker Keith Browner died Tuesday morning in San Leandro, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau confirmed Wednesday. He was 63.
Keith Browner Jr. told TMZ that he talked to his father Monday night when the elder Browning was having stomach problems, vomiting and feeling tired. Browner Jr. said his father told him he would go to the hospital the next morning.
Browner was getting ready to go to the hospital Tuesday morning, according to TMZ, “when he curled over the side of a chair and collapsed to the floor next to his girlfriend.” TMZ also reported that “it appears” Browner suffered a heart attack and that his death was “unexpected and sudden.”
That leaves Los Angeles choosing from four players in Trey Pipkins III, Austin Deculus, Jamaree Salyer and Trevor Penning to fill its two tackle spots against the Steelers (5-3).
Penning started practicing with the Chargers on Wednesday after being acquired from New Orleans at the trade deadline on Tuesday, going from one of the worst teams in the NFL to another pushing for the playoffs.
“Pretty crazy overnight, you know, you get five more wins, so it’s pretty crazy,” Penning said.
Penning was a first-round pick by the Saints in 2022 and has experience at right tackle and left guard. He also played left tackle in college at Northern Iowa. His first day with the Chargers had him working at both left tackle and right tackle to give the coaching staff a sense of where he might fit best.
“It’s definitely challenging at first,” Penning said. “It’s like writing backwards. You’re writing with your left hand versus your right hand, so it just takes time, a lot of work at it.”
Whichever two tackles get to start will have to deal with a Pittsburgh defense that seems to be coming together after an uncharacteristic start, getting five sacks in a 27-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Edge rushers T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith combined for three sacks and two forced fumbles.
