Jonathan Bennett Shares Insights on LGBTQ+ Love Stories in Hallmark’s A Keller Christmas Vacation

In an interview with PEOPLE, Jonathan Bennett shared his excitement about his latest role in Hallmark’s upcoming film, A Keller Christmas Vacation, airing on November 9. The actor, known for his thoughtful approach to LGBTQ+ storytelling, emphasizes the importance of representing love in all its forms.

Bennett, who plays Dylan in the film, described a personal responsibility he feels when it comes to portraying gay love stories. “I know I have a responsibility to make sure that it stands out in a good way,” he remarked. His primary goal is to create storylines that resonate with all viewers, encouraging those who might typically shy away from such narratives to stay engaged. “I want them to see that our love is just like everyone else’s,” he added.

The film unfolds as Dylan embarks on a holiday river cruise in Europe with his family, including his brother Cal (Brandon Routh) and sister Emory (Eden Sher). Just before the trip, Dylan proposes to his long-term boyfriend, played by Anand Desai-Barochia, but receives an unexpected response that initiates a deep emotional journey for his character. Bennett elaborated on how the rejection serves as a catalyst for Dylan’s storyline, drawing inspiration from his own experiences of feeling rejected.

Routh, who stars alongside Bennett, praised the inclusive nature of the film, noting that it showcases the universal theme of love and family without isolating Bennett’s character’s story as “the gay storyline.” Instead, all characters face challenges that are relatable regardless of their sexual orientation. “We all love who we love,” Routh stated, emphasizing the film’s broader message about humanity and connection.

Sher echoed these sentiments, appreciating how seamlessly the various storylines intertwine, illustrating a family navigating their challenges together. “It really just incorporates everyone,” she remarked, highlighting the film’s commitment to inclusivity.

In addition to acting, Bennett co-created and hosts Hallmark’s reality competition series, Finding Mr. Christmas, reflecting his investment in both storytelling and fostering connections within the gay community.

A Keller Christmas Vacation is set to premiere at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel, with a subsequent airing on Hallmark+ the following day. The film aims to deliver heartfelt, authentic narratives that resonate with diverse audiences, reinforcing the idea that love, in its many forms, is a shared human experience.
