One miner missing in Nicholas County after tunnels flooded

NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – One miner is still missing from the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County, West Virginia.

A mine crew was working in a tunneled section when they struck a pocket of water that flooded the tunnels in the min.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon.

The Nicholas County Commissioner, Garret Cole, said they believe the missing miner is three-fourths of a mile into the mine.

Officials say they are also not sure how much water is currently in the mine.

Cole says the rescue updates are ongoing.

Mine rescue teams and emergency personnel were on scene today.
