According to ESPN, UAB Blazers football is expected to name Alex Mortensen as its next head coach.
Mortensen has been serving as interim head coach after the dismissal of Trent Dilfer and led the Blazers to wins over No. 22 Memphis Tigers and Tulsa Golden Hurricane during his interim tenure.
Before joining UAB as offensive coordinator, Mortensen spent nine years on the coaching staff at Alabama Crimson Tide under veteran head coach Nick Saban. Under Mortensen’s coordination, UAB set a school record for yards per game in 2023.
Mortensen is also the son of the late longtime NFL analyst and reporter Chris Mortensen.
