Timberwolves Star Anthony Edwards’ Heartwarming Moment With Young Fan Goes Viral

There’s a fascinating tendency in human nature, which is the urge to fulfill, later in life, what we once longed for in our childhood. Sometimes it’s subtle, like buying the toy we never got as kids. Other times, it’s powerful enough to stop a packed NBA arena in its tracks.
On Sunday night, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards gave the world a touching reminder of this truth during a viral moment in the team’s game against the Sacramento Kings.
Anthony Edwards’ Sweet Gesture From Sunday Night Went Viral
In a fourth-quarter moment at Golden 1 Center with the Minnesota Timberwolves cruising, Edwards briefly found himself near the stands and locked eyes with a young supporter tucked into a corner section. The kid was rocking a Kings hoodie, but that didn’t matter.
Edwards waved him over, pulled out a jersey, and placed it in the young fan’s hands. As the boy was walking back to his seat, the arena became a runway of joy as he received fist bumps, hand claps, and wide smiles from strangers who instantly felt like teammates.
After the Timberwolves wrapped the victory, Edwards was asked about the gesture. His answer was quite personal. He explained that he grew up a Kevin Durant fan back when Durant was lighting it up in Oklahoma City.
Edwards used to sit far back in the stadium, which was a world away from the floor, and never managed to get a jersey from his idol. That memory stuck. So when he saw the young fan on Sunday night, he decided to give him the moment he once wished for. It wasn’t about team colors, but it was about closing a loop from childhood and paying it forward.
“It means a lot because I used to be at the game when KD came to play Atlanta for OKC. I used to hope I could get a jersey, but I was always in the nosebleeds. So just finding that one fan … He said he supports me a lot, and he was super happy to get my attention, so I was like, ‘You know what, I’m going to give him my jersey tonight.’ Super happy,” said Edwards after the game.

This wasn’t a one-off, either. Just four days ago, in a loss to the New York Knicks, Edwards took off his jersey during the game and handed it to a fan seated behind him who was wearing a store-bought version of the All-Star guard’s number.
Of course, the box score still loved Edwards on Sunday. He showcased his elite two-way spark with 26 points, five assists, and four rebounds on 7-of-16 shooting in just 30 minutes.
Minnesota had the upper hand from the jump as they built a six-point edge by halftime before detonating for 40 in the third quarter to stretch the margin to 17 after the break. The Wolves even had the largest lead of the game, a 28-point advantage in the fourth quarter, which was a wave that the Kings couldn’t handle and ultimately lost (144-117).
With Sunday’s victory, the Timberwolves moved to 6-4 and now gear up for a Nov. 10 clash against the Utah Jazz. But beyond the box score, it’s Edwards’ selfless moment with a young Kings fan that people will remember.
