Hollywood legend, 84, facing ‘significant health crisis’ enters hospice

Sally Kirkland has entered hospice following a string significant medical incidents over the past year, all while living with dementia.
Michael Greene, a spokesperson for the 84-year-old actress, told TMZ Sunday that Kirkland was in hospice in Palm Springs, California. An update on a GoFundMe page for Kirkland also confirmed that the Oscar-nominee was in hospice.
“Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love,” the message from Friday, Nov. 7 read. “Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally.”
Kirkland had been “facing a significant health crisis” after SAG-AFTRA canceled supplemental insurance in 2021 for members over the age of 65, according to the GoFundMe that was created on Nov. 18, 2024. The longtime actress broke four bones in her neck and right wrist as well as developed two separate life-threatening infections while recovering.
“The combination of these injuries and infections have required extensive hospitalizations and rehab beyond the 100 days insurance will cover,“ the GoFundMe stated. ”As the days pass, lack of proper care greatly diminishes Sally’s chance of a full recovery. However, with the right medical support, we know she has a strong chance of overcoming this setback and returning to the work she loves.”
The fundraiser has since collected more than $60,000 to help support Kirkland’s cost of treatment and recovery.
Kirkland’s career spans six decades and includes appearances in more than 250 projects. She was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for her breakthrough role in “Anna,” a comedy-drama released in 1987. Kirkland’s other notable projects include “The Sting,” “Private Benjamin,” “EDtv,” “Bruce Almighty,” “The Haunted,” “Best of The Best,” “Revenge,” “Coffee Date,” “Roseanne,” “JFK,” “A Brave New World,” “80 for Brady” and the 2024 indie hit film “Sallywood.”
