Two spectators at the ATP Tour Finals have died after medical emergencies at the season-ending tennis tournament.
The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP) and the ATP sent a joint statement Tuesday morning, in relation to the events that took place Monday.
“The FITP and ATP express their deepest condolences following the tragic passing of two spectators today during the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
“The two individuals, aged 70 and 78, had come to the Inalpi Arena to attend the matches. Both suffered sudden cardiac incidents at different times during the day. On-site medical and emergency personnel responded immediately, providing all possible assistance.
“Despite prompt intervention and subsequent transfer to hospital, unfortunately, both sadly passed away. The FITP and ATP extend their heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the two spectators.”
Turin police did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
The ATP Tour Finals has been held in Turin since 2021. It is expected to remain in Italy through 2030 and in Turin through 2026, with the following four editions yet to be assigned a venue. According to people with knowledge of the discussions, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the private talks, tournament sponsor Nitto has been pushing for a move from Turin to Milan since at least last year’s edition.
The tournament continues Tuesday, with Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 1, taking on Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti facing Alex de Minaur.
