British Food TV Icons Bond Over Unlikely Tabletop Game — ‘You’re a Natural’

Two British giants of food television — Mary Berry and Jamie Oliver — are coming together for a BBC show. “Mary at 90: A Lifetime of Cooking” is currently airing on BBC Two and on BBC iPlayer. It’s a six-part cookery series featuring some of Mary Berry’s favourite recipes, celebrating her reaching 90 earlier this year.
In the first two episodes, Berry spoke to comedian Tom Allen and broadcaster Gabby Logan, respectively. However, in the third episode — releasing today, Tuesday, November 11 — she’ll be chatting to fellow cooking icon Oliver.
A teaser clip posted to Instagram shows the pair, who were already long-time friends, enhancing their bond over an unlikely tabletop game: foosball.
‘Natural’ Jamie Oliver Wins a Closely-Fought Contest
The 54-second video — which was posted to both Berry’s account (235,000 followers) and Oliver’s account (10.6 million followers) — shows Jamie Oliver asking Mary Berry if she’d like a game of table football (foosball). Berry reluctantly agrees, despite admitting she’s never played before, and knowing Oliver has.
The two culinary legends have some back and forth banter and appear to enjoy the game, which Oliver ultimately wins. It prompts Berry to say, “You’re a natural, aren’t you? I was second!”
Oliver then humorously responds, “It’s your round now!”
A caption on the video reads, “On this week’s episode of Mary at 90: A Lifetime of Cooking, I’m delighted to be joined by my lovely friend, @jamieoliver, Jamie and I have always shared a love of simple and delicious home cooking for the whole family, so this week I share some of my most favourite dishes with him. We also take a trip down to the pub for a lovely chat and we even have a game of table football… ⚽️ Tune in tonight at 7:30pm on BBC Two and @bbciplayer 💞.”
