COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State continues its opening homestand by hosting Appalachian State on Tuesday night at Value City Arena. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on B1G+. Mason Jarrell, Harrison Hall, and Gabe Eaker will call the action.

The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.

  • This will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs. The Buckeyes are officially 1-0, winning 80-67 on Dec. 16, 2017, in Columbus. Jae’Sean Tate led four Buckeyes in double figures with 19 points. Ohio State also had an NCAA Tournament win vacated during the 2000 season.
  • The Buckeyes have opened the year with a pair of victories, winning 118-102 against IU Indy and then rolling past Purdue Fort Wayne 94-68. Ohio State is averaging 106 ppg and shot better than 63 percent in back-to-back games for the first time in 40 years.
  • Senior guard Bruce Thornton scored a career-high 38 points in the win over Purdue Fort Wayne, connecting on 14-of-17 shots and also leading the team with five assists. The 38 points were the most in a game by a Buckeye since Jared Sullinger had 40 against IUPUI in December of 2010.
  • Thornton, who was named the program’s first four-time captain, led the country in points per game over the first week at 32.0 ppg.
  • Thornton is just five points away from tying Terence Dials for 14th place in program history and just 21 points from matching Allan Hornyak for 13th place.
  • Senior big man Christoph Tilly made an immediate impact in his first two games as a Buckeye. He averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two wins last week while shooting .714 percent from the floor and was 13-of-14 from inside the arc.
  • Sophomore John Mobley Jr. made five three-pointers in the win over Purdue Fort Wayne and made seven combined three-pointers in the two games.
  • Freshman Mathieu Grujicic made his first career three-pointer on the first shot he attempted in his career, canning a three against Purdue FW last Friday.
  • Appalachian State opened the year with a loss at Central Michigan but then returned to Boone to claim wins over Carolina University and N.C. Central. Kasen Jennings has averaged 18.7 ppg and 3.0 apg over the first three games.
